A pill that provides the rhythm
With replacement therapy, one takes oral hormones that the thyroid does not produce more. Finding the right dosage is not easy and can easily alter the balance achieved.
Finding the right dosage of therapy is not easy. The thyroiditis therapy is by oral route. It should be taken on an empty stomach in the morning about half an hour before breakfast.
In the case of hypothyroidism (reduced thyroid functionality), it is a replacement therapy: it assumes the synthetic form of thyroid hormone that the gland does not produce anymore.
In the case of hyperthyroidism, therapy will instead aim to inhibit the production of hormones. In some cases, after a certain period, the thyroid starts to function properly on its own and the therapy can be discontinued however with caution and carrying out regular blood tests.
Beware of nodules
The nodules can be benign or malignant. Even in the pediatric and adolescent population with thyroid problems, you must periodically check the thyroid.
"The ultrasound alone is often not enough; better to make an echo-color doppler which allows, in some cases, to avoid the needle aspirate (ie. the removal of a fragment of the nodule to study it" recalls Professor Giuseppe Chiumello who chaired the Italian and European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology.
